Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the State of Indiana and the two universities that made the I-Light network possible, we invite you to join us at the 2004 I-Light Symposium.

This event provides an occasion for us to explore opportunities for collaboration, research, and scholarship using the I-Light Optical Fiber Infrastructure. I-Light is a unique, high-speed network connecting Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and Purdue University with each other and with Abilene, the national high-speed Internet2 research and education network. Soon, I-Light2 will link more educational institutions to this important network and extensively broaden collaborative opportunities.

The symposium will feature demonstrations and presentations by researchers and information technologists from our campuses concerning some of the advances in IT and science already made possible by I-Light. Information will also be shared regarding the use of the I-Light network for applications in advanced computing, visualization, and collaboration.

Join us in Indianapolis March 9 for an impressive array of presentations and demonstrations providing timely information about ways that the I-Light network can enrich your programs.

Yours sincerely,

James Bottum
Vice President for Information Technology and CIO
Purdue University
