"I want the windows of my house open so that the winds of culture may flow freely through them..."

- Mahatma Gandhi

International House is a Living, Learning Center located at the west end of the IUPUI campus, wherein geographical boundaries vanish to create a unique multi-cultural atmosphere.

Students and researchers from near and far enjoy a healthy community life while being able to pursue their academic interests. We have about 50 residents representing nearly 20 countries including Malaysia, India, Pakistan, China, Indonesia, Hungary, Madagascar, Nigeria, Somalia, Russia, Kazaksthan, Korea, Puerto Rico, Croatia, Thailand, VietNam, Zaire and,of course,USA.

Scholars living in I-House are automatically members of the INTERNATIONAL CLUB of IUPUI, which is a student organization with membership primarily consisting of international students who share the culture and beauty of their country with people of Indianapolis through the traditional COFFEE HOURS on Fridays which is open to all. In addition, an in-house PROGRAM-DIRECTOR (junderhi@iupui.edu) works very closely with the I-CLUB OFFICERS to plan and successfully implement several activities that are both educational and fun,in order to build an environment of friendship and mutual understanding of the diverse cultures represented here, plus enhance intellectual progress by exposure to liberal ideas while preserving cultural integrity.

In order to preserve and maintain this harmonious atmosphere of cultural exchange, we have a Resident Advisor who encourages participation in the many activities that are planned, works to bridge differences and helps in clearing misunderstandings should any arise.
