With the fall semester under way, I hope many of you are able to take time for your research and scholarship, in addition to your teaching obligations. Please remember that the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research is ready to assist with launching and sustaining your research efforts. I encourage you to take advantage of our events and programs this semester.
I’d particularly like to draw your attention to the Research Onboarding Orientation on October 17th. Designed with new faculty in mind, this session is also appropriate for anyone who wants more information about the resources available for scholars and researchers at IUPUI. There will be an opportunity to connect with the offices that support your research (such as Human Subjects and Research Administration) and others who can enhance your research program in other ways. There will also be an opportunity to network with other new faculty and “old hands” who can help you navigate the (sometimes complex) research environment on our campus.
We recently celebrated the 2018 Research Trailblazer Awardees, Brian Dixon and Andrea Jain. The award recognizes them as rising stars in the IUPUI firmament, and I’d like to offer my congratulations and thank them for their outstanding work.
Chancellor Paydar and I have asked all the IUPUI schools to participate in a strategic dialogue on research, scholarship and creative activity during this academic year. The dialogue will begin in the schools with new, updated and refreshed strategic plans for research, and culminate in the spring with a campus-wide conversation to identify the areas that will be highlights of the IUPUI research enterprise in the future. I encourage you to be an active participant in this effort.
