The Inside Out Prsin Exchange Program is a transformative model for learning that engages university students in a deeper questioning of issues of crime and justice “behind the walls.” Inside Out courses bring college students and incarcerated students together in correction facilities for a semester-long course in which they encounter each other as equals, often across profound social barriers. Ten years ago, in 2008, the first Inside Out regional conference took place here in Indianapolis. Over the past decade, we’ve grown from our modest origins at IUPUI to a course offered all over the state.

We will be joined by two special quests from the Philadelphia headquarters of Inside Out. Lori Pompa is the founder and executive director of the Inside Out program. Tyrone Werts is the International Think Tank Coordinator and becaame involved in the Inside Out program while he was still serving what was originally a life sesntence in a maximum security men’s prison.
