Setting the Stage for a Cohesive Campus-wise First Year Experience: Bridge, First Year Seminars, and Themed Learning Communities
Please join RISE and the IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning for the second in a series of four workshops that will address high-impact educational practices (HIPs). This workshop will address the layering of HIPs in students’ first year to offer a more cohesive and unified learning experience.
Participants will gain perspective on how to use taxonomy guides to aid in the creation of a vision to scale up existing work by examining and coming to an understanding of how first year programs intersect, while collectively providing a more efficient, inclusive, and nuanced overall experience for students. The presentation will consider current challenges and how to combine first year experiences to find solutions.
Panelists will include facilitator Jennifer Thorington Springer, Director of the RISE program; Kathy Johnson, Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer; Heather Bowman, Director of First-Year Programs; and Amy Powell, Director of Themed Learning Communities.
