Teaching and research interest: Asian history, world history, and social and cultural history.

Awards: ACLS, CCK, Chinese Cultural Association.

Publications: Social Transformation in Modern China: The State and Local Elites in Henan, 1900-1937 (Cambridge University Press 2000); Er shi shi ji zhong guo shehui zhi yanbian (Beijing: Zhong hua Shuju, 2005) and numerous articles in journals.
