Goals: This seminar series, September 14, October 19, and November 16 (3:30 promptly to 5:00), will bring together all public history interns to discuss the principles and practices of public history Ain the field.@ It is a required part of your internship credit. The roughly two-hour seminar discussions will center on selected common readings dealing with important theoretical and practical concerns of public historians. Two public history interns will choose the topic and readings for each session. All interns will read the chosen materials and be prepared to join in the discussion directed by the seminar leaders. While the first meeting is tentatively set in the University Archives Conference Room, subsequent meetings may be at host institutions. Interns may ask their internship sponsors to participate as well. To keep this seminar lively as well as informative, sessions should focus on broad issues rather than narrow ones and appeal to entry level interns as well as those completing their academic training.

Evaluation: Your leadership and participation in the seminars will be part of your final internship grade, along with your monthly reports and your supervisor=s evaluation.

I will provide copies of readings for the first seminar by Labor Day weekend and citations for the readings for subsequent seminars.
