Angelina Hernandez

Ph.D. in Cellular and Integrative Physiology

What degree are you working toward?

Ph.D. in cellular and integrative physiology from the IU School of Medicine.

Why did you choose graduate school at IUPUI?

The umbrella Biomedical Gateway Program (IBMG) offered flexibility in the department and mentor of choice to complete my studies. More importantly, the excellence in science, collaborative environment, and translational research at this campus engaged my interest to move across the country for this program.

What’s been your favorite academic accomplishment since you’ve been here?

Although I have been awarded fellowships and have recently published my first first-author manuscript, I’d have to say that my favorite academic accomplishment is receiving the IUPUI Graduate and Professional Student Government’s “Outstanding Service to Career, Campus and Community Award.” This award is a reminder of the major driving force behind my educational path.

What do you enjoy most about life in Indianapolis?

There's always a festival, cultural event, marathon, or fun event to participate in Indianapolis! Since moving here, I've participated in the Monumental Marathon, Dia de la Familia festival, Superbowl village events, Circle City Classic, and so many more activities. I enjoy living in such an active environment.
