LAB 6: MEASUREMENTS OF METEOROLOGICAL DATA AND
HOW TO OBTAIN CURRENT AND PAST WEATHER DATA USING THE WORLD WIDE WEB
OBJECTIVES:
-To understand the procedures involved in the collection of simple meteorological data.
-To assess the importance of accuracy in science.
-Introduction to resources on the Internet for retrieving climate data, satellite imagery, and surface weather maps.
I. Context
In this lab, you will collect weather data using an array of instruments. You will deal with the issue of precision and accuracy of measurements in the context of collection of weather data in the field. You will then compare your data with the data available for Indianapolis on the web. In G107, and in many of your other courses, you will be using the World Wide Web (WWW) to access a wide array of data. One of the purpose of this lab is thus to introduce you to the WWW, specifically to on-line weather resources.
