The Department of Geography at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis is offering this page as a research resource for environmental studies. The following list of links is an excellent jumping off point for conducting research in the broad field of environmental studies.

Amanaka'a Amazon Network "Amanaka's works directly with Amazon leaders in support of their projects for survival, human rights, the environment, health, sustainable development, education and more." The Amanaka'a website is no longer active but contains archival information. It also has links and information about other Amazonian and rainforest organizations.

Amazing Environmental Web Directory! "Earth's Biggest Environmental Search Engine." One of the most linked sites, because of its excellent organization and usefulness.

Argonne National Laboratory ASK-A-SCIENTIST Archive - Environmental Science A very interesting collection of questions and their topics -- possibly a good place to find an essay/research topic.

Audubon Institute "Our goal is to foster appreciation and, ultimately, conservation of these ecosystems, which are showcased in an outstanding collection of nine museums and parks dedicated to nature, and another on the way."

Baltimore Ecosystem Study"How urban and suburban areas function as ecological systems is poorly known....This lack of ecological knowledge is especially problematical because urbanization, including the urban sprawl in suburban areas, is one of the major changes people are causing at the global scale."

BC Spaces for Nature "Working to protect nature in British Columbia. BC Spaces for Nature (formerly Tatshenshini Wild ) works with environmental organizations throughout the province on a variety of land use issues; at both the local and the provincial level. These groups are linked together through the BC Environmental Network".

The Center for Environmental Citizenship / EnviroCitizen Check out the issues that are hot on campuses all across the country. The Center for Environmental Citizenship / EnviroCitizen was founded in 1992 by college students working to increase the citizen participation of their peers on behalf of environmental issues. EnviroCitizen works to build leadership, ignite youth power, and replenish the environmental movement with a diverse base of innovative emerging leaders dedicated to winning environmental and social justice victories.

The (Jacques-Yves) Cousteau Society "The Cousteau Society is a nonprofit, membership-supported organization dedicated to the protection and improvement of the quality of life for present and future generations. The Society believes that only an informed and alerted public can best make the decisions necessary to protect and manage the world's natural resources."

Earth and Environmental Science "The U.S. Geological Survey maintains this registry of Earth and Environmental Science Internet resources as a service to the research community." A very extensive list.

Earth First! RADICAL!! "Earth First! is working hard on many levels to save the earth's remaining sacred natural land and it's inhabitants from the destructive greed of corporations."

Earth First! Headwaters Forest is another Earth First! link; this one concerned mainly with saving old-growth Redwood forest.

Earthwatch International Homepage - Welcome! "Building a sustainable world through active partnership between scientist and citizen." Probably the most beautiful page on this list, with an endless amount of resources.

EE-Link Endangered Species This page is listed seperatly from the EE-Link page because it is so extensive. It is an invaluable resource for information about endagered species.

EE-Link Environmental Education on the Internet "...our mission is to spread information and ideas that will help educators explore the environment and investigate current issues with students. This resource is designed to support students, teachers and professionals that support K-12 environmental education."

EnviroLink Probably the second-most linked enviro-page out there. A beautifully designed page with endless resources. It is a great place to begin exploring or find specifics.

Environmental Careers World Looking for a job...? "The Internet's leader in environental and natural resources job information and career news."

Environmental Defense Fund "Issues: Broad range of regional, national and international environmental issues. In recent years EDF has become a leading advocate of economic incentives as a new approach to solving environmental problems."

Environmental Journalism Home PageThe online home of the Society of Environmental Journalists. "The source for journalists reporting on the environment." The "tipsheet" portion of this site would be most useful to researchers. It includes a list of story ideas (that could be used for research topics) which is updated regularly.

Environmental Justice Links on the World Wide Web This list is so extensive that it should not be passed up.

Environmental 'News Link' "Published by Capitol Reports, Environmental 'News Link,' is not only a valuable news service for today's environmental professional -- it's also a comprehensive research tool."

Environmental Professional & Industry Associations A list of professional and trade associations and related information. "We are confident that this list will be helpful to you in your pursuit of an environmental career."

Environmental Restoration -- U.S. Department of Energy "In 1989, the Office of Environmental Restoration was created ... to consolidate, centralize and promote the cleanup of contaminated waste sites and surplus facilities within the DOE Complex." This is an endless site.

Forest, Biodiversity and Indigenous Links An extremely well organized and focused site. Forest conservation sites with significant informational resources are linked here.

Greenpeace International the Greenpeace site is incredible, extensive and one not to miss.

Institute for Global Communications "IGC's five online communities of activists and organizations: PeaceNet, EcoNet, LaborNet, ConflictNet, and WomensNet, are gateways to articles, headlines, features, and weblinks on progressive issues."

Macrocosm USA "A non-profit clearinghouse for progressives emphasizing peace, justice, environmental and health issues and solutions."

Mendocino Environmental Center The largest list of links that I have ever seen. An excellent place to begin research.

National Oceanic and Atmoshpheric Administration--Environmental Information Services "Mission: To describe and predict changes in the Earth's environment, and conserve and manage wisely the Nation's coastal and marine resources to ensure sustainable economic opportunities."

Stephen F. Austin State University School of Forestry offers links to a number of sites in the area and links to some other interesting resources.

The Nature Conservancy "'Nature's real estate agent.' That's The Nature Conservancy. The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive."

Peace Corps The name says it all.

Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection An extensive site dealing with many issues--specific to Pennsylvania.

Puget Sound Green Pages "Internet links for the Puget Sound Environmental Community in Northwest Washington State."

Sierra Club "The Sierra Club is a non-profit member-supported, public interest organization that promotes conservation of the natural environment by influencing public policy decisions--legislative, administrative, legal, and electoral."

Sustainable Forests Directory "Our mission is to help bridge the gap between the economic needs of the forest products industry, and the ecological concerns of the environmental community."
