What you can do to
support Geography Education in Indiana:
- Time and talent to
Indiana schools
- For example, geo-spatial technology specialists visit classrooms to share their employment skills and knowledge, which impacts local, state, national and international issues.
- Giving to GENI to
support programming, professional development for Indiana K-12
educators, and creation of dynamic and unique classroom and community resource materials. All donations and registration fees
contribute to the GENI
Endowment to sustain this organizations work to help provide support
for geography education in
Indiana. There are three ways to financially support GENI, which is a self-funded not-for-profit organization devoted to geographic literacy:
- Donations to the Indiana GENI Endowment. Direct donations are tax deductible on federal tax returns. (cash/check)
- Donations to the NGS (National Geographic Society) GENI/Indiana Endowment. Direct donations are tax deductible on federal tax returns. (cash/check/credit card)
- Donations to "Friends of GENI" via the IU Foundation enables you to donate in support of GENI and to receive a state tax credit, as well as a federal tax deduction. (cash/check/credit card)

- Materials for a designated school
or In-Kind contributions
- GENI can purchase geography education materials (maps, globes, books, atlases, videos, etc.) on your behalf for the school you designate
- Sponsor a professional development seminar with GENI education professionals providing a session based on your designated school's desired topic (funding used to cover presenter mileage and appropriate materials for teachers)
- Sponsor a Giant Traveling Map for your school/district of choice
- Sponsor a unique geographically-oriented resource
- Become a GENI Member
- Your annual dues
contribute directly to the GENI Endowment and you receive educational
materials to help strengthen and expand geography in your existing
curriculum.
- Become
an active
GENI Board Member or GENI Committee Member and volunteer your time to
help plan, promote, and present geography programming.
