JOB DESCRIPTIONS FOR GENI OFFICERS AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS

All those elected to a position on the GENI Board of Directors are responsible for maintaining active membership in the organization, attending scheduled Board meetings, and providing direction and input as necessary in order to meet the needs of Indiana educators.

GENI Board President
  1. Represents the Geography Educators’ Network of Indiana in activities which further the goals and objectives of the organization.
  2. Fills all appointive offices with the consent of the GENI Board of Directors.
  3. Proposes annual priorities subject to the consent of the GENI Board of Directors.
  4. Implements all directives from the GENI Board of Directors.
  5. Presides over the GENI Board of Directors meetings.
  6. Interfaces with the GENI Executive Director, Director, and various GENI Committees to ensure GENI program implementation.
  7. Collaborates with the GENI Executive Director and Director to prepare Board meeting agendas.
  8. Functions as a role-model and spokesperson for state and national political advocates. 
  9. Communicates with organizations and persons about geography education and funding.
GENI Board Vice President
  1. Represents the Geography Educators’ Network of Indiana in activities which further the goals and objectives of the organization.
  2. Functions as a role-model and spokesperson for state and national political advocacy.
  3. Assists with the effective implementation of various GENI Committees.
  4. Presides over GENI Board of Director meetings in the absence of the GENI Board President.
Secretary
  1. Keeps official minutes at each GENI Board of Directors meetings.
  2. Forwards copies of Board meeting minutes to Board Members for approval.
  3. Forwards a final copy of Board meeting minutes, based on Board Member approval, to the GENI home office for archival purposes.
Treasurer
  1. Reviews monthly GENI account statements.
  2. Reports to GENI Board of Directors at each meeting:  account balances and suggested accounting procedural recommendations if necessary.
  3. Interfaces with the GENI Investment Committee to determine a viable location for various GENI funds (accounts:  operating, endowment, individual program,…). 

Board of Directors

      1.  Determines GENI priorities, policies, and goals. 

      2.  Approves Board nominations. 

      3.  Actively recruits members and future Board members. 

      4.  Responsible for creating an effective membership plan. 

      5.  Determines the proper use of GENI funds. 

      6.  Approves the hiring and annual review of the GENI Executive Director and Director. 

      7.  Attends GENI Board meetings. 

      8.  Assists with various GENI Committees, in-services, workshops, institutes, and conferences.
