After eight students were eliminated from the final round (two incorrect answers equal elimination) the remaining two students then competed in the Championship Round.  Both students were asked the same three questions.  Brandon and Ian both missed the first question and both answered the third question correctly.  It was the second question that put Ian on top.  Could you answer that question...

"Florence Nightingale, recognized as the founder of modern nursing, reduced death rates dramatically during which war that shares its name with a Ukrainian peninsula?"   (scroll down for the answer)

Ian Markham realizes he has just won.

"Hot Seats"

Indiana's top 100 Bee finalists and their guests were welcomed at an opening ceremony to kick off the event.  Dr. James Speer from Indiana State's Geography Department and President of GENI's Board of Directors, welcomed everyone and introduced Dr. William Blomquist, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI.  Dean Blomquist spoke about the importance of geography and the achievement reached by these outstanding Indiana students.  Dr. Tony Bennett, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction, also addressed the crowd offering his own congratulations and pride in what the students have accomplished.  We greatly appreciate these men taking time out of their busy schedule to personally recognize the state qualifiers.
