Welcome to Environmental Geology

Cataract Falls at Lieber State Recreation Area northwest of Greencastle, Indiana

Cataract Falls at Lieber State Recreation Area southwest of Greencastle, Indiana (IUPUI Earth Sciences).

This course was developed as part of the Online IUPUI initiative and the Center for Teaching and Learning Jump Start program. The initiative adds more online courses to allow for flexible scheduling of courses for IUPUI students and creates online courses that use the best practices in online learning, online communication, and online testing. This course parallels the material that would be covered in the on-campus sections of Environmental Geology.

There are several primary differences between this course and a course you would take on campus:

  • There are no class meetings on campus; all course requirements are fulfilled through Oncourse
  • Communication will occur through announcements, email and discussion groups
  • Lectures are delivered by static web pages, animations, videos and links to online resources
  • All assessments (tests, quizzes, and homework) are submitted online within Oncourse
  • Your learning focuses more strongly on textbook readings and readings from additional materials

Are there other geology courses?

We offer other 100-level courses meant for both science and non-science majors, including Oceanography, Indiana Geology, Environmental Geology, Historical Geology, and Physical Geology. Indiana Geology and Oceanography are both offered as online courses. Labs are offered with Environmental Geology, Historical Geology, and Physical Geology.

IUPUI offers a B.S., B.A., and minor in Geology. A new B.S. in Environmental Science is now available through a joint effort with the Department of Geography and the School for Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA). As a graduate, careers are available with environmental consultants, labs, engineering firms, county, state, and federal environmental agencies, mining/resource companies, and non-profit agencies. Further education (M.S. or Ph.D) provides other opportunities in teaching and advanced research. Additionally, combining a geology major/minor with another major provides additional career opportunities.
