This page provides information for contacting your instructor or solving problems. You should consider printing this page —in case a computer problem prevents you from reading it. Instructor contact information is at the bottom of the page.

Technology Problems

In most cases technology problems cannot be solved by your instructor. Always contact a campus help desk AND your instructor if a technology problem is preventing you from completing coursework.

Technology problems include:

  • Problems connecting to the internet
  • Problems connecting to Oncourse
  • computer crashing
  • how to run your internet browser
  • how to install plug-ins
  • features of Oncourse not working correctly

If you have a problem with technology, here are some resources for help:

Oncourse Problems

If you have problems using Oncourse, view the Oncourse Help Page. If you have trouble logging into Oncourse, contact the campus help desk (listed above). If you have trouble accessing a specific item in Oncourse, contact your instructor.

Assessment (Quizzes / Exams) Problems

In this online course, you only have a limited amount of time to take and submit an assessment. If you have computer problem or lose internet connectivity during a timed assessment, you need to follow the steps below.  Failure to follow these steps will result in not being able to retake the assessment.

Please be aware that your instructor will not be available on weekends or evenings (after 5 PM) to answer questions. Your instructor can and will only help you if you contact them during the assessment time frame. If you contact your instructor about technical issue after the assessment due date instead of when you encounter the issue, you will not be allowed to retake the quiz.  Plan accordingly: allow yourself time to fix possible problems.  Those students who complete assessments at the last minute generally do not do as well as those that complete assessments well before the due date.

  1. Reenter Oncourse and enter the quiz or assessment again. If it was submitted Oncourse will prevent you from retaking it again. If it was not submitted, Oncourse will allow you to complete the assessment.
  2. If you cannot quickly resolve the issue, you must contact Oncourse support (274-HELP, 24/7) to obtain an issue number.  If you do not obtain an issue number for technical issues, you will not be allowed to retake your assessment.
  3. Contact your instructor during the assessment time frame with following information:
    • The full name of the Tool or Assessment (e.g., Test and Surveys, Assessment #05).
    • The time and date when you encountered the issue.
    • A description of the issue. If possible, remember the error code or take a screen capture of the issue. See here: http://kb.iu.edu/ and do a search for “screen capture.”
    • The issue number that you obtained from UITS/Oncourse Support when you called their 24/7 help number (274-HELP).
  4. If your computer fails altogether, you should immediately locate another computer where you can take the quiz or assessment within the assessment due time/date. Send your instructor an email describing the problem.

At the beginning of the semester, you should identify a backup computer you can use. Your instructor will not allow make-ups due to faulty technology - always have a second (or third) choice of computers to complete assessments. Consider computers available at these places:

Instructor Contact Information

Your instructor can solve problems not related to your computer, internet connection, or an error within Oncourse. Within the teaching materials, contact the instructor if you find a broken link, a typo, a half written sentence, etc. Often, this is the way we discover a problem! If you are encountering difficulties in the course, contact your instructor for suggestions, advice or referrals to resources. Additionally, your instructor can clarify, explain, or provide more detail on any of the material within the course.

The following information can be used to contact the instructor for your section of Environmental Geology G107. You are given a variety of means to contact your instructor - print these out at the beginning of the semester and keep them readily available. Not knowing how to contact your instructor will not be tolerated as an excuse for not completing course materials.
