Scientists know one thing for certain, as Nelly sings it, “It’s getting hot in here..” We know global warming will be an issue for humans to tackle in the 21st century. It may be a moderate issue or it may become the defining issue of the 21st century.

In the next decade, scientists will have a better idea of how rapidly global climatic temperatures are rising, and what role human air pollution is playing in global warming. While climate change may be news to the average citizen—geologists have known for a long time that Earth’s climate is every changing—alerting between extremes 1000s of times over geologic time.

Studying climate is extremely complex, and this complexity leads to many of the current debates over global warming. Most scientists consider global warming such a serious threat that proactive measures are needed to reduce greenhouse gasses. Global warming is a very abstract and distant concept—yet every American has the ability to reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses they emit.
