Assessment #12: Quiz – Earthquakes (15 points)
elrond

Each quiz is created for you from a large test bank of questions. This is done to maintain the academic integrity of the course and discourage academic dishonesty. At the start of each quiz, you will have to answer an academic honesty question. Failure to answer this question or answering it in the negative will result in a loss of 15 points.

You will be asked 13 questions for a total of 15 points. The quizzes will contain a combination of true-false and multiple choice questions. In the Module quizzes, two of your multiple choice questions will be two-point questions which will test your ability to apply the course concepts. These are a good indication of how well you are able to go beyond memorizing the information and into critically thinking about the material. You will have 45 minutes to complete the quiz.

To access these quizzes:

  1. Only when you are ready to take the quiz, go to the main Oncourse page for this course.
  2. Along the left navigational bar, click on “Test and Surveys.”
  3. From the choices given, choose the name of the assessment given above. Do not click on the quiz unless you are ready to take it. In some cases, clicking on the quiz begins the timer. If you do not take the quiz immediately, your quiz will time-out and you will not be able to take it again.
  4. Read the introductory instructions carefully. Choose "Begin Assessment".
  5. Work through the quiz by answering each question by clicking the radio button next to the correct answer.
  6. You can choose "Next" at the bottom of each page to go to the next page of questions. You may click "Save" at the bottom of each page to save your answers in case you are kicked out of the test for any reason.
  7. You can click "Previous" or "Table of Contents" to review previous answers or go back within the quiz.
  8. When you are sure you have completed all questions, click “Submit for Grading” at the bottom of the last quiz section.
  9. A confirmation screen will appear.
  10. You will be able to see your score immediately in the Gradebook. If you do not see the confirmation page and/or your grade does not show up in your Gradebook after you have submitted your quiz, contact your instructor and attempt the quiz again as there may have been a problem with your quiz submission.

How to avoid bugs, errors, and failing your quiz due to technical difficulties:

  1. Do not open (click on) a quiz until you are ready to take it. Due to a timer error, time begin when you click on the quiz as opposed to when you click “Begin Assessment.”
  2. Use Mozilla Firefox. The Oncourse Administrators tell us that the Mozilla Firefox web browser is the most stable browser for using Oncourse.
  3. Only have one window and one tab open. While the quizzes and exams are open note, open book, open module, you should not have any other web browser tabs or windows open when you take the quiz. This is due to an internal bug within the Oncourse system that causes quizzes to freeze and fail to submit when multiple browser windows or tabs are open.
  4. Communicate, communicate, and communicate. If you should encounter a technical difficulty, you must contact your instructor and UITS/Oncourse support per the instructions on the Global View page of this module. If you do not follow those directions, you will not be allowed to re-take your quiz.
