Global View
Our water and atmosphere are key resources that differentiate Earth from other planets and provide the basis for life on Earth. Water is one of the main forces that shape the Earth through the very slow process of erosion and weathering. In the form of ice, glaciers can tear apart a landscape in 1,000s of years. The gasses in our atmosphere and the water vapor that circulates through the atmosphere gave rise to conditions that support life on Earth.

Recent Events: Now that you’ve learned a bit about soils and how water resources work, what do you think needs to happen to protect water resources after the Indianapolis Oil Spill on September 7, 2010? Approximately 30,000 gallons of recycled oil spilled near Sherman Drive and Washington Street. This is very close to Pleasant Run, which flows into the White River. Try to apply what you’ve learned and post an answer to the class chat room. This is not a required posting, but should help you to understand how to apply the concepts we are learning.
