Readings and Articles

As the Table on the Introduction page told you, you will find the required reading list for each Module on this page.  Throughout the Lecture section, you will see many hyperlinked stories or resources.  These are not required unless they are listed on the Readings & Articles of the Module.  I will try to remind you of that by telling you which readings are required and which are not when you see these links in the Lecture text.

Course textbook

Just a reminder that the required textbook is Introduction to Environmental Geology, 5th edition by Edward A. Keller, ISBN-13: 978-0-321-72751-0, ISBN-10: 0-321-72751-7.
For this Module, please complete the following:

  • Read the entire course Syllabus - found by clicking “Syllabus” on the left (←) navigational bar in Oncourse CL.
  • Read Chapter 1. You can omit the graphics on geologic time (for now) and pages 26-38.

At this point, you should go to the required readings and read them.  So, go ahead and leave me and my green boxes by clicking on the Syllabus link.  Read through the Syllabus, then go ahead and pull out your textbook to go through Chapter 1.

Wait!  Before you go, I want you to look below.  Under the required readings, you will find lists of supplemental, optional readings.  These are usually just for fun or for those of you who are interested.  What usually happened, is that I found some interesting articles or resources you might be interested in reading.  While the ones found below here are more geared toward the learning goals of this module, other modules’ optional reading lists include some great reference material for the writing assignments in the course.
