Global View
Well, you made it through the Lecture section. This is the Global View section which will give you my parting words on the material we just covered. Sometimes, it’ll just be a simple summary with a few reminders. Sometimes, it’ll be a couple of case studies you might want to think about to solidify the ideas you just covered.
Online classes are becoming more popular. This is great. In terms of using resources, this means less driving around the state. There are some of you taking this class from Bloomington, IUPU-Columbus, IUPU-Kokomo or beyond! It also means less paper usage. All of your exams and papers will be submitted electronically. Yay, Trees!
To help you to be successful, make sure that you:
- Understand the course policies.
- Follow the course schedule.
- Know how to navigate the Oncourse CL site and the Modules.
- Know how to help yourself.
Ignorance of any of these key factors is not an excuse for failure to turn in an assignment. In terms of helping yourself, one of the best things you can do is to create a contingency plan for computer or technology failure. Identify places you can go to if your computer dies. Is there a library nearby or a friend/family member who would let you borrow his/her computer? Identify places you can go to if your internet goes out. Is there a restaurant nearby with free wi-fi? Can you get to a 24 hour Kinkos or other wi-fi signal?
If you have computer problem during a timed assessment, follow these steps. If you do not follow these steps, you will not be allowed to retake the assessment.
- Reenter Oncourse and enter the quiz or assessment again. If it was submitted Oncourse will prevent you from retaking it again. If it was not submitted, Oncourse will allow you to complete the assessment.
- If you cannot quickly resolve the issue, you must contact Oncourse support (274-HELP, 24/7) to obtain an issue number. If you do not obtain an issue number for technical issues, you will not be allowed to retake your assessment.
- Contact your instructor during the assessment time frame with following information:
- The full name of the Tool or Assessment (e.g., Test and Surveys, Assessment #05).
- The time and date when you encountered the issue.
- A description of the issue. If possible, remember the error code or take a screen capture of the issue. See here: http://kb.iu.edu/ and do a search for “screen capture.”
- The issue number that you obtained from UITS/Oncourse Support when you called their 24/7 help number (274-HELP).
- If your computer fails altogether, you should immediately locate another computer where you can take the quiz or assessment within the assessment due time/date. Send your instructor an email describing the problem.
In short, if you have any technical issues with accessing materials or assessments, you should contact your instructor via an Oncourse Message and contact UITS/Oncourse Support through their 24/7 help line: 274-HELP. (Program the UITS/Oncourse help line into your cell phones now.)
As for the Fundamental Concepts, you will see how the themes are continuously woven through our understanding of the upcoming topics. Throughout this course, you will learn more about each of these fundamental concepts.
