Tuition Fee Remission

A fee remission is an award for tuition and/or fees which can be awarded by the university, the state of Indiana, or by specific bequest. This allows students to enroll at a reduced or no cost tuition and/or fees at the expense of the university, state, or benefactor. See below for several types of tuition and fee waivers.

IU Tuition Benefit
The IU Tuition Benefit is a fee remission which is given to full-time employees of the IU system, their spouses or domestic partners, and their dependent children.

State of Indiana Remissions
The State of Indiana offers tuition and fee remissions to certain students. State fee remission awards include 21st Century Scholars, Child/Children of a Disabled Veteran, Indiana Purple Heart Recipients, and the Indiana Soldiers & Sailors Children's Home. Visit the Indiana Commission for Higher Education for more information about these awards and others.

Departmental Remissions and Waivers
Some university departments issue fee remissions to students in exchange for services to the university. Fee remissions apply to tuition and the general fee only and cannot be refunded.

GRE and Praxis Exam Waivers
Educational Testing Services (ETS®) offers a limited number of Fee Reduction and Waiver Certificates on a first-come, first-served basis. The certificates are available for college seniors and non-enrolled college graduates who meet eligibility requirements. Click here for additional information.
