Applying for Financial Aid at IUPUI
Important Information for Transfer Students
Students transferring to IUPUI (or IUPUC) that are regularly admitted to enroll in a degree-granting program of study or eligible certificate program of study will be reviewed to determine financial aid eligibility after receipt of the FAFSA for the appropriate aid year. The initial steps in determining your financial aid status is dependent on confirmation of your admission status.
Students transferring to IUPUI as a non-degree student will not be reviewed to determine financial eligibility. The one exception is for non-degree students that submit the Non-Degree Prerequisite Certification form and meet the criteria to receive aid while taking course work required to qualify for admission in an eligible program of study. If you are temporarily attending IUPUI and plan to return to your former/home university to complete a degree program, please contact your former/home university in regard to any option to receive student financial aid as a consortium student.
Steps for IUPUI Degree-Seeking Students
There are several steps involved in completing the financial aid application process as a degree seeking transfer student. We suggest that you begin this process as early as possible to avoid delays in receiving financial aid.
- Contact the Financial Aid Office at the university you are transferring from and tell them you are transferring to IUPUI or IUPU Columbus (IUPUC). If you have financial aid awards at that university for a semester that you will be attending IUPUI (or IUPUC) as a degree seeking student, you must request your aid be canceled in order to receive financial aid at IUPUI or IUPUC.
- Complete or update the FAFSA for the appropriate aid year. If you are updating a FAFSA, confirm you have listed or add the school code for IUPUI - 001813 (IUPUC - E01033 if applicable).
- If you are an applicant (submitting the FAFSA prior to the March 10 Priority Application Receipt Deadline for the next aid year) or recipient of a State of Indiana Higher Education Award from the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) for the current aid year, visit the SSACI eStudent website and confirm or update your first choice college to IUPUI (of IUPUC if appropriate). Typically, we receive an update from SSACI within one to two weeks of your update.
- If you are a CVO recipient, you must complete a new CVO application and submit your approved CVO application to the Office of Student Financial Aid Services so we can process your award. You also need to complete step 2.
- If you are a private scholarship recipient, contact that organization or donor and tell them of your change in enrollment plans and contact the IUPUI Office of Student Scholarships. They will let you know if the private scholarship can be received at IUPUI (or IUPUC) and what steps need to be taken for your private scholarship to be transferred to IUPUI (or IUPUC).
