Agenda Item I: Call to Order: Rosalie Vermette (IUPUI Faculty Vice-President, 4.0064). 

Vermette called the meeting to order at 3:30pm. 

 

 

Agenda Item II: Adoption of the Order of Business for the Day.

The order of business was revised.  The revised order of business for the day was adopted.

 

 

Agenda Item III: [ACTION ITEM] IFC 9/6/05 Minutes:  Up for Approval.

The IFC September 6, 2005 minutes were unanimously approved and entered into record.  These minutes are available to view online at http://www.iupui.edu/~fcouncil/minutes/fc050906html.htm.

 

 

Agenda Item IV: [ACTION ITEM] Election of (1) At-Large Representative to the Promotion and Tenure Committee: Cathy Bonser-Neal (Chair – Nominating, 4.3448).

The election was conducted and Marianne Wokeck was elected the representative-at-large to the Promotion and Tenure Committee for the 2005-08 terms.  Wokeck will join current at-large representatives Carole Gall (through 11/2006) and Keith Moore (through 11/2007). 

 

Bonser-Neal thanked all of the candidates and moved that the ballots be destroyed.  The motion carried.

 

           

Agenda Item V: (5-8 minutes) [ACTION ITEM] From Faculty Affairs - Conflict of Interest Policy (see yellow hand-out): Jennifer Hehman (Subcommittee Chair/Member – Faculty Affairs) and Marion Wagner (Chair – Faculty Affairs, 4.6733).

Wagner and Hehman gave a second reading of the proposed Conflict of Interest Policy for Academic Appointees of IUPUI (http://www.iupui.edu/~fcouncil/documents/conflict_commitment.htm). Following a brief discussion regarding clarifying the “Definitions” section of the policy, Professor Fisher made a motion to amend item "iv." to read: “Receipt of royalties or honoraria for published scholarly works, commissioned papers, and occasional lectures as long as they are not required for purchase for the author’s classes.”  NOTE:  The new language in the preceding passage is underlined.  The motion passed. 

 

The question was called.  The IFC approved the policy.

 

 

Agenda Item VI: (5-8 minutes) [ACTION ITEM] From Faculty Affairs - Conflict of Commitment Policy (see green hand-out): Jennifer Hehman (Subcommittee Chair/Member – Faculty Affairs) and Marion Wagner (Chair – Faculty Affairs, 4.6733).

Wagner and Hehman gave a second reading of the proposed Conflict of Commitment Policy for Academic Appointees of IUPUI (http://www.iupui.edu/~fcouncil/documents/conflict_commitment.htm).

 

Following a brief discussion of the policy during which Wagner briefed the faculty on revisions made to items IV. and V. [in the interest of clarifying activities that may take place while on university salary], the question was called.  The IFC unanimously approved the policy.

 

 

Agenda Item VII: (10 minutes) President's Report: Bart Ng (IUPUI Faculty President & UFC Co-Secretary, 4.8185).

Ng, first, offered an update on the Mission Differentiation Project, noting that the final report is available on President Herbert’s webpage at http://newsinfo.iu.edu/pub/libs/images/usr/905_h.pdf.  Ng and Chancellor Bantz continue to remain in close conversation with the President about the report as it moves forward for review by the IU Board of Trustees.

 

Ng directed the IFC to a video stream highlighting IUPUI’s 2005 United Way campaign and ways to become a donor.

 

Ng then announced that the IFC will meet in the renovated University Place Hotel Ballroom on December 6th.  A special reception will follow the meeting.

 

Ng asked that faculty consider taking some time following the meeting to view the displays [in the hotel lobby] about the University Place renovation.  More information on the renovation is available online at http://www.universityplace.iupui.edu/main/default.asp?flash=true.

Agenda Item XII:  State of the Campus Address: Charles Bantz (IUPUI Chancellor & IU Vice-President).

Ng thanked everyone for attending the annual address which is sponsored by the IFC [per mandate by the IFC Constitution and Bylaws].  Ng then introduced Chancellor Bantz, who delivered his address which highlighted the following areas:

 

·        Progress of Doubling efforts (Teaching and Learning; Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity; Diversity;

·        IUPUI’s priorities for development and promotion in the immediate future (Life Sciences, Information Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Nonprofit Management and Philanthropy, Arts/Culture/Tourism)

·        IU Presidential Goals

·        IUPUI’s role in the Mission Differentiation Project

·        IUPUI in the economic context of Indianapolis and Indiana

·        Mission-based funding initiatives

·        Review of organization and administrative structure
