  • Mark your calendars now for the December 4th Installation/Inauguration of Chancellor Charles Bantz.  Details TBA.

  • And coming this spring…  The 2004 Campus Campaign!  (NOTE: Many thanks to all those who contributed to the highly successful 2003 Campus Campaign. At Thursday’s meeting, 2004 Campaign Co-Chair Jeff Vessely presented the Chancellor’s office with a check yielded by faculty contributions to the 2003 campaign.)

  • Executive Vice Chancellor William Plater updated the faculty on an opportunity presented to IUPUI to participate in  the Lilly Endowment’s “Initiative to Promote Opportunity Through Educational Collaborations.”  IUPUI’s proposal has been drafted.  The FC will be updated as to the proposal’s progress and status.

  • President Mary Fisher updated the FC on work being done at the University Faculty Council level, including:
    • A committee charged with exploring and strategizing re: marketing and branding IU has convened and made its first report to the UFC.  Issues include:  university colors, mascots, logos and the issue of “Indiana University” and “Indiana UniversityBloomington” having become synonymous.  UFC members presented many questions and much feedback [to Vice President for Public Affairs Bill Stephan] on behalf of the system as a whole and on behalf of their respective campuses.  The committee will reconvene and work to address these concerns/questions.  Fisher will continue to update the FC on this matter.

    • President Herbert will continue to convene and consult the President’s Advisory Council (established under President Brand).  Faculty from across the system serve on this committee.  Bill Schneider (IUPUI) and Al Ruesink (IUB) are also continuing as appointed faculty advisors to the President, attending UFC in this capacity.

THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE ON THURSDAY NOVEMBER 6 FROM 3:30-5:30pm IN INLOW HALL 100 (“The Wynne Court Room”)
