The Frederick Douglass Papers project bases its research upon documents held by numerous repositories, which include the newspapers published by Douglass during his lifetime. 


Repositories 

The following links give information about libraries with significant numbers of Douglass documents in their collections. This is not, for the time being, a comprehensive list of all repositories with Douglass letters.

Frederick Douglass Papers
The Library of Congress holds the bulk of Douglass's personal papers.
 
Boston Public Library
Anti-Slavery Manuscripts
The Boston Public Library holds the papers of many antislavery activists based in Boston, including letters by William Lloyd Garrison and Maria Weston Chapman.
 
Rush Rhees Library, University of Rochester
Frederick Douglass Papers
Isaac and Amy Post Family Papers
Porter Family Papers
The Rush Rhees Library contains the papers of antislavery activists based in Rochester, New York, and includes some documents relevant to the Underground Railroad.
 
Bird Special Collections, Syracuse University
Gerrit Smith Papers
Library of Maryland History, Maryland Historical Society
Lloyd Papers
The Lloyd Papers contains information about Douglass's life as a slave, including the closest approximation of his birthdate and lists of his siblings.

Newspapers
