Dr. Ralph Buschbacher grew up in Pennsylvania. He did his undergraduate training at the University of Virginia. He stayed at the University of Virginia for medical school, and moved to the Medical College of Virginia for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency training. He was selected as the Chief Resident of his residency class. He currently practices mainly in musculoskeletal medicine with an emphasis on occupational medicine as well as electromyography. He has served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is also an examination writer for this organization. Dr. Buschbacher has published six books and is an associate editor on three others. He has written over 50 manuscripts and 25 book chapters. His main interests are in musculoskeletal medicine and electromyography, and he recently (along with Dr. Prahlow) published the second edition of a comprehensive manual of nerve conduction studies. He is also past secretary/treasurer and past president of the Indiana Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and served six years as Newsletter Editor of the Association of Academic Physiatrists. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Association of Academic Physiatrists. In his spare time, Dr. Buschbacher makes furniture, practices karate, competes in triathalons, and spends time with his wife and four sons. Dr. Buschbacher's wife, Lois Buschbacher, is also a physiatrist on our staff.

Dr. Carbone is a board certified specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is a graduate of Indiana University's School of Medicine and trained at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Chicago. She had the honor of being named Chief Resident during her final year in the department. Her special interests include neurologic and neuromuscular rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation, pain management, and musculoskeletal injuries. She has expertise in electrodiagnostic medicine, the rehabilitation of stroke, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury, and the non-surgical treatment of low back and neck injuries and other musculoskeletal injuries involving the upper and lower extremities. Dr. Carbone is an active member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, AMA, Association of Academic Physiatrists, American College of Sports Medicine, and American Academy of Pain Medicine. Dr. Carbone is now Chief of Rehabilitation Services for Wishard Memorial Hospital, as well as Program Director of Neurological Program at Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana. She enjoys an active family life with her husband Joe and their four children. |

Dr. Dave grew up in Chicago. After graduating from the Honors Program at Loyola University Chicago, he completed medical school and internship at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He finished his residency at Loyola University Medical Center, completing rotations at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) as well as Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital. While at Loyola, he served as Chief Resident. He joined our department as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2005. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Dave’s interests include musculoskeletal medicine, peripheral joint, trigger point, and fluoroscopic lumbar injections, electrodiagnosis (EMG), and spasticity. He is medical director of the Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation (MDFF) adult clinic and runs an interdisciplinary spasticity clinic, where he also performs chemodenervation (Botox ®). He holds clinics at Indiana University, Wishard Memorial Hospital, the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, and IUMG 103rd and Springmill in Carmel. |

Dr. Prahlow grew up in Valparaiso, Indiana and attended Valparaiso University for undergraduate training. After graduating from the Indiana University School of Medicine, he did a Transitional Year at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and completed his specialty training with the Indiana University Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He joined the faculty in 2003 and is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. His practice includes musculoskeletal medicine (primarily in a Worker's Compensation setting) and electromyography. He has recently published a book on nerve conduction studies with Dr. Buschbacher. He and his wife, Julie, have three children. They spend their free time camping and hiking, cooking, and going to family reunions. |
