Program Summary Intern preparing for rounds
The residency program is designed to produce outstanding clinicians and leaders in pediatrics, academics, and the community. We provide a well-rounded base of training for any future career in pediatrics, and build in flexibility to tailor the program to individual needs. Our graduates go on to rewarding careers as primary care pediatricians, hospitalists, subspecialists at IU and across the U.S., researchers (basic science, clinical, and health services), community/public health providers, and other leadership positions.

We believe that optimal education is provided by:

  • A diverse patient base that exposes the resident to a comprehensive array of pediatric problems in primary and specialty care
  • Working alongside faculty who are expert clinicians and who are actively involved in patient care, education and research
  • Giving residents direct primary responsibility for patient care

The clinical experience is educationally enhanced by a well-developed conference series, daily teaching rounds and the motivation created by the opportunity to teach medical students on pediatric rotations. The program curriculum is carefully planned and rotations are designed to give a graduated experience in pediatrics. Residents with special interests in general pediatrics, research, advocacy, international medicine, or other areas of pediatrics have multiple options to tailor the program to include many months in a specific area.
