Medicine/Pediatrics

Our program has offered a combined Medicine/Pediatrics residency program since 1982. This four year program leads to board eligibility in both specialties. Medicine/Pediatrics residents are fully integrated members of both departments, performing as full partners with the medicine and pediatrics peers. The curriculum is designed to prepare the resident for a wide spectrum of patient care through an integrated program design. Rotations between medicine and pediatrics ensure that residents are exposed to the seasonality of pediatric illnesses. During the initial 16 months of training, the resident functions as a PGY 1 in both departments. During the remaining 32 months, the resident functions at a supervisory level corresponding to a second or third year categorical resident in internal medicine or pediatrics. Medicine/Pediatrics graduates pursue future careers predominantly in primary care but also have options in subspecialty care, emergency care or hospitalist careers.
