Electives

Curriculum Overview

Residents have 6 months of elective time— 1 month as a PGY-1, 2 months as a PGY-2, 3 months as a PGY-3. Elective time can truly be individualized, allowing each resident the flexibility needed to prepare for any type of career in pediatrics. Electives can be used to improve skills in areas of interest, to help make decisions about career choices, to gain experience with laboratory or clinical research or to work with practitioners in community settings. There are also opportunities to work in public health and international health settings. With advance approval, residents may work at other hospitals or create specialized independent study electives.
