Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum is organized to provide a graduated experience with increasing responsibility through the three years of residency. Our goal is to provide a balanced experience, tailored to individual interests.  Each year incorporates all of the main components of clinical care - inpatient, ambulatory, critical care. Residents attend weekly continuity clinic sessions during all 3 years. Unique experiences and electives in each year allow exploration of special interests. Residents preference their rotations each year and combined with 6 electives, we develop individualized curriculum for your needs. The overall curriculum forms a cohesive, coordinated program, which develops core competencies and tools for any future career in pediatrics.

The following section summarizes a sample template schedule for each year (PGY-1, PGY-2, PGY-3).

PGY 1 Year: This year introduces the resident to clinical pediatrics through a balance of inpatient rotations and exposure to ambulatory, developmental, emergency care and the nursery/delivery room. PGY 1 residents write orders for their patients, with support and back up from senior residents and attending faculty as appropriate. The service teams work closely with the faculty, allowing residents to learn directly from master clinicians. Night call averages every fourth night on call months. The first month of the community rotation allows the residents an opportunity to become familiar with local resources and the role of the community in health care. We offer an elective month during this year to allow residents to explore their interests.

Residents usually supervise 1 month in the Newborn ICU and one month in the Pediatric ICU, in addition to 4- 5 ward months. There are adolescent and advocacy months included in the PGY 2 curriculum. Over half the time is spent in ambulatory settings. Night call averages every fifth night for months with call.
