International Health
| The Indiana University-Moi University Faculty of Health Sciences partnership enables our residents to take a six-week electives in Eldoret, Kenya. An IU faculty member who lives in Kenya for at least one year supervises the elective. Residents' responsibilities while at Moi University include patient care, teaching, and clinical research activities. This program is one of the best established collaborations between a North American and African medical school, and was just awarded a substantial grant to begin provision of highly active retroviral therapy for families with HIV infection in an effort to reduce maternal infant transmission of the virus. This elective provides unique learning opportunities that include participating in community health activities and caring for diseases such as malaria, rheumatic heart disease, malnutrition, tuberculosis, meningitis, typhoid fever, and tetanus. The department helps defray the costs of travel for this elective, all neccessary vaccinations and housing are provided. | |
