The Campus

Clarian PeopleMover with the Cancer Research Center in the backgroundThe pediatric and medicine residency programs sponsored by the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSOM) are based at five hospitals. University Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children, The Richard Roudebush Veterans Administration Hospital and Wishard Memorial Hospital are adjacent to each other on the IUSOM campus. Methodist Hospital is located about a mile away. A monorail service opened in 2003 to connect the Methodist and University campuses for transport of both employees and patients. The hospitals in the residency program, serve as the referral center for a population of 5.6 million people.

Each hospital provides a library with extensive computer access to full text journals as well as abstract services, open 24 hours a day, exclusively for the use of residents. Both campuses have state of the art medical libraries adjacent to the hospitals.

Medical informatics systems between all the facilities are linked; available services include patient data, radiology images, order entry and Internet access. The community health centers are also linked with the hospitals to instantaneously transfer patient data. These systems establish an efficient and accurate medical record for physicians providing care to patients at each of the training sites.
