Research programs directed by our faculty range from studies of fundamental biologic principles to evaluations of new therapeutic strategies. In a time of increased national difficulties in sustaining financial support for medical research, the programs within the department of pediatrics at Indiana University are gaining increased recognition by funding from the National Institutes of Health as well as from a variety of private industry and philanthropic organizations. The department ranks among the top 10 pediatric departments in the country in NIH funding. Residents interested in exploring research opportunities have the opportunity to develop their own projects and to interface with clinical protocols in subspecialty rotations. Primary care receives a strong emphasis, with the Division of General and Community Pediatrics standing as the largest in the department. The general pediatric faculty members create the base for the primary care pediatric practices while teaching medical students and residents.
