IUPUI Procedures


Steps for IU Undergraduate, Graduate, & Professional Course Approval

  1. The Department initiates a course change or new course form making sure the academic subject code and course number are available.      
  2. The Department Chair signs the course form or the School Curriculum Committee may review, approve and sign the course form.
  3. Dean approves and signs the course form.
  4. Undergraduate Courses: Forms are forwarded to the Office of the Registrar, Attn:  Thomas A May, Cavanaugh 141. Graduate & Professional Courses: Forms are forwarded to the IUPUI Graduate Office, Attn:  Beth Young, UN 207.  
  5. Undergraduate credit courses are put on the IUPUI Remonstrance List located at: http://www.iupui.edu/~crsremo/undergrad.html. New course requests will be placed on the site around the first of each month. Once the list has been established for the remonstrance period no additions or deletions are made. Any new courses that are forwarded after the publication of the monthly list are added to the next listing. This list is reviewed by Academic Affairs Officers, Academic Deans and Academic Representatives from the Academic Policies and Procedures Committee. An email notification* is sent to members of the list alerting them that a new remonstrance list is available. After 30 days, if no objections are filed, the course forms are approved and forwarded for final inclusion in the IUPUI course catalogue.
  6. Graduate & Professional credit courses are put on the IUPUI Remonstrance List located at: http://www.iupui.edu/~crsremo/grad.html. After 30 days, if no objections are filed, the course forms are approved and forwarded for final inclusion in the IUPUI course catalogue .After 30 days, if no objections are filed, the course forms are signed by the Associate Dean of the IUPUI Graduate School and graduate courses are forwarded onto the Graduate School at IU-Bloomington to be placed on their remonstrance list and receive any additional signatures needed. Professional Courses are forwarded onto University Enrollment Services for signature and final processing. Once graduate courses are finished with IUB remonstrance lists, the course is forwarded onto University Enrollment Services for final processing.

The Office of University Enrollment Services reviews the course form one more time.  The course is given a course ID # and entered into the course catalog as an active course. Copies of completed forms are returned to the Office of the Registrar for undergraduate courses and the IUPUI Graduate Office for graduate & professional courses; forms are separated, disbursed to the Academic Units, and filed.
