--Outstanding Organization Advisor Award
Ron Sandwina, Ph.D., Department of Communication Studies, received the Outstanding Organization Advisor Award nominated by Lambda Pi Eta. Dr. Sandwina as Outstanding organization Advisor for his phenomenal efforts in supporting their organization. Dr. Sandwina finds time in his busy schedule to not only attend their events, but to listen to any problems or news they have to share.
--Outstanding Staff Award
Charina Tengson, Department of Communication Studies, received the Outstanding Staff Award nominated by Lambda Pi Eta for displaying a cheerful attitude. Ms. Tengson treats the student like they are more than an ID number. She goes out of her way to know our names and to be of help to Lambda Pi Eta. With her bright smile and encouraging words, she personifies the true meaning of an Outstanding Staff.

--A Thank-You Call
The Communication Studies business office received a phone call from student Jill Metzell saying her instructor for C394 (Elizabeth Goering) was the best she ever had at IUPUI. She commented that Dr. Goering's teaching practice, lectures, and demeanor are nothing less than commendable.
--Nine Students Named to Top 100 -- Four from Communication Studies:
Nine Liberal Arts students are among those named as IUPUI's Top 100 Outstanding Students. Students are nominated by faculty, staff, and student organizations as well as by a committee of faculty, staff, and alumni. The students were recognized at a dinner sponsored by the Indiana University Alumni Association--IUPUI Office of Alumni Relations on March 30 at the Downtown Marriott. It's noteworthy that each of the following students are Lambda Pi Eta members

--Liberal Arts Faculty Awarded $156,239 in New Frontiers Funding
Five Liberal Arts faculty members received a total of $156,239 from Indiana University in support of their groundbreaking research. The Indiana University New Frontiers in the Arts and Humanities Grants Program, funded by the Lilly Endowment, enables faculty members to expand their work into disciplinary or interdisciplinary frontiers that promise new insights into the human condition or pursue innovative directions in artistic creativity. One of the five faculty is our own Elizabeth Goering, Associate Professor of Communication Studies, "And Justice for All?: Thematic Analysis"
--Spokesperson for Riley Kids Radionthon
Ashley Taylor, one of our former R110 students, a current C180 student and a Communication major will be a spokesperson for Riley Kids Radionthon. Ashley is a cancer survivor and R110 helped give her the courage to speak out and help raise money for child cancer victims and other child illnesses.
--IUPUI Athletics Favorite Professors
Communication Studies faculty Mary Beth Googasian, Jack Price, and Kathryn Thedwall were recognized by the IUPUI student athletes. The commitment to teaching and learning of Liberal Arts faculty has once again been recognized.
--Faculty Advisor to Lambda Pi Eta
Ron Sandwina, Ph.D.,Associate Professor of Communication Studies received a letter of appreciation from Tamara Carpenter, Program Director at the Martin Luther King Center thanking him and Lambda Pi Eta for their joint effort in sponsoring three Second Time Around families for Christmas. The Second Time Around Program supports grandparents who have taken on the full-time responsibility of parenting their grandchildren. The letter read in part, "I had no idea the overwhelming amount of support you were going to offer. Just 24 hours later I was told you had raised enough to support three families. The efforts of you and all the students enabled the three grand-families to have a Christmas to remember."
