DEPARTMENT OF INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS
GUIDE TO RULES COMPLIANCE
Section 7 - SCHEDULING AND MISSED CLASS TIME
It is the policy of the IUPUI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics that no student-athlete may miss class due to team meetings, strength and conditioning or practice. Excused absences, at the discretion of the individual class instructor, are allowed for travel to and from away contests or to compete in home contests.
Coaches are encouraged to schedule in such a manner that the team, as a whole, will not miss a total of 10 class days and individual student-athletes will not miss more than 4 sessions of the same class. The exceptions may be granted in the case of Conference or NCAA required competitions that cause the limits to be exceeded. These exceptions must be initiated by the Academic Advisor and presented by the Athletics Director to the Athletics Advisory Committee for approval.
No contests, except for Conference or NCAA contests, may be scheduled during final exam periods. Exceptions must be requested by the Director of Athletics and forwarded to the Athletics Advisory Committee for approval.
-Approved by Athletics Advisory Committee 4/29/98
Calculation of class time missed is to be done as follows:
A.CLASSES BEGINNING AFTER 7:00 A.M. AND ENDING PRIOR TO 5:30 P.M.:

(2) Return times from multi-day trips when the day of return is a day when classes are in session:
A completed schedule form is to be submitted annually in accord with specific dates to the Director of Athletics. All planned contests and championship events must be included. Dates of post season championships must also be identified, e.g., NCAA championships, if that information is available at the time of submission.
Head Coaches are responsible for scheduling contests in their sport. Schedules are to be submitted to the Compliance Coordinator no later than March 1 (Fall Contests) and October 1 (Spring Contests). Proposed schedules will be reviewed by the Compliance Coordinator, Athletics Business Manager and Director of Athletics for NCAA minimum/maximum requirements, missed class time, cost and transportation. The Athletics Committee will provide final approval for all schedules submitted by the Director of Athletics. Any necessary changes in a schedule (e.g., travel time/date changes, etc.) are to be submitted (Schedule of Changes form) to the Director of Athletics, Compliance Coordinator, and Athletics Business Manager.
