<p style="text-align: left;">The <a href="http://www.iupui.edu/%7Echina/">Confucius Institute in Indianapolis</a> celebrated its fifth anniversary by doing what it has done since 2007: offering programs for Hoosiers that provide a window into China.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The weeklong celebration, which began April 22, includes three Chinese films, a reception, followed by student performances and a symposium, “China in Africa: A New Model of International Development?” co-sponsored by the institute and the <a href="http://www.sagamoreinstitute.org/">Sagamore Institute</a>.</p>

goes through hell when the child is taken away by<br />

<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>The Confucius Institute is looking for people who are interested in volunteering and participating in this year’s Indy 500 Festival Parade on Saturday May 26<sup>th</sup>.  Our Institute will be a sponsor and will have three giant Chinese lantern balloons that will require at least 5 handlers per balloon.  We will meet downtown at the American Legion Mall, on North Street between Meridian and Pennsylvania Streets.  Check-in will begin at 8:00am and a post-parade reception will be from 1:30 – 3:30pm, which will have pizza and beverages.  If interested please register at <a href="http://www.500festival.com">www.500festival.com</a> (Instructions are attached).  When prompted, you will need to enter our access code which is “<b>lantern</b>.” If you register by Wednesday, April 10<sup>th</sup> you will receive an invitation to Volunteer Appreciation Day. This event is held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Pole Day. <p style="text-align: left;">Learn the sport of martial arts at any level, from beginner to expert. This course will teach not only the techniques of GongFu, but will also focus on expression and performance. Students will have the opportunity to study multiple disciplines: Beginner, including posture, footwork and hand forms to master the basics; Intermediate level with advanced jumping and kicking movements; Advanced level, learning combat forms of ‘Five step fist’ and ‘Long fist’; Expert level, where students will integrate weapons including the short sword and staff. This course is for all levels and will be held outdoors when weather permits</p>

<strong>Award:</strong> A total of six prizes will be awarded for teachers at kindergarten/elementary school, middle school and high school level; 3 each for regular and Sunday Chinese schools.<br />
A certificate issued by the Confucius Institute in Indianapolis and 100 US dollars<br />

2. Submit at least three letters of recommendation; one each from a supervisor and a co-worker, as well as one from the parent(s) of a student.<br />

<p style="text-align: left;">In order to support the development of Confucius Institutes, facilitate Chinese language promotion and Chinese cultural transmission in the world, cultivate qualified Chinese language teachers and talented students of Chinese language, Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban (hereinafter referred to as Hanban) launches the “Confucius Institute Scholarship” program to provide financial aid for students, scholars and Chinese language teachers worldwide to proceed to a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) in Chinese universities (hereinafter referred to as &#8220;host institutes&#8221;), or study in such majors as Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Chinese Philosophy.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Youth Chinese Test</strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The new YCT test was launched by Hanban in an effort to encourage foreign young students to learn Chinese and improve their Chinese language proficiency. As part of this effort, since 2004 Hanban has organized experts from different disciplines such as Chinese language teaching, linguistics, psychology and educational measurement to work on the program, conducting surveys in order to understand the latest trends in overseas Chinese language teaching and learning.</p>
