			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The inauguration of Confucius Institute in Indianapolis was held on April 25.  A large delegation of Sun Yat-sen university including President Daren Huang and Deputy Director General of Guangdong Province Department of Education attended the inauguration ceremony.  Executive Vice Chancellor Sukhatme hosted the ceremony.  Chancellor Bantz, President Huang, VP O&#8217;Meara of IU, Dean Brater of IUSM, Indianapolis Mayor Ballard gave congratulating remarks. The congratulatory letter of Consul General Ping Huang of General<br />
Consulate of China in Chicago was read by Executive Director Xu of Confucius Institute.</p>
<p>The grand opening was followed by a symposium &#8220;China: From Confucius to Glogalization&#8221;.  Professor Weiming Tu of Harvad University is a keynote speaker.  Drs. Heidi Ross, Mindy Zhang, Scott Kennedy, James Robinson and Palmer Mickie delivered speeches on topics of Chinese education, Chinese business and trade, Chinese arts and Chinese medicine.  More than 300 audience attended the event.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Ambassador of China to the United States, Mr. Wenzhong Zhou, visited Indianapolis and gave a speech on Sino-American relationship on Feb. 22 at the conference hall of University Place on IUPUI campus.  The visit of Ambassador Zhou is co-sponsored by Kelly School of Business and Cummins Inc.  President McRobbie of Indiana University attended the meeting.</p>
<p>The Director of Confucius Institute in Indianapolis, Zao C. Xu, was invited to the dinner on Feb. 21 in Eli Lilly and Company honoring Ambassador Zhou.  Dr. Xu also attended the meeting and had conversations with Ambassador Zhou and Consul General Huang of Chicago on issues related to the Confucius Institute in Indianapolis. Susan Sutton, the Associate Vice President for International affairs also attended the meeting the the lunch after the event.</p>

Amy Warner, the Vice Chancellor for External Affairs gave an opening speech. David Ford, the Associate Dean of SLR was also in the party.  Dinah Zhang and Fang Jiang, the instructors from SYSU, performed a duet at the party.  Many faculty, staff and students were in the party and had a good time.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Vice Chancellor Uday Sukhatme attended the 2nd Confucius Institute World Conference in Beijing Dec. 10-13 with the Director of Confucius Institute in Indianapolis Zao Xu. During the meeting, VC Sukhatme attended the Exhibition of Confucius Institute Achievements and discussed the future development of Confucius Institute with other representatives from difference institutes around the world.<br />
After the conference, VC Sukhatme visited SYSU in Guangzhou and met VPs Ningshen Xu and Guangmei Yan to discussed the possibility of student and faculty exchange programs between IUPUI and SYSU.  VC Sukhatme also gave a seminar on Quantum Mechanics in the School of Physics and Engineering.  He then visited the East campus of SYSU that is located in the new mega university town to the east of Guangzhou.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Patrick O&#8217;Meara, the Vice President of International Affairs of Indiana University visited SYSU on Dec. 3.  In the morning, VP O&#8217;Meara met Vice presidents Ningsheng Xu and Guangmei Yan of SYSU and discussed the issues related to Confucius Institute and explored the future collaborations on faculty and student exchange.  In the afternoon, VP O&#8217;Meara visited the Opthalmic Hospital and met President Jian Ge and some faculty from School of Optometry, HongKong Politechnic University to discussed the potential join program for Ph.D. program in Optometry.  Zao C Xu, the Director of Confucius Institute in Indianapolis, and Shawn Reynolds, the University Director International Partnerships &#038; Strategic Initiatives, participated the meetings.</p>
