Transfer Credit for

Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) Certification

and

Department of Defense BMET Training

The Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology at IUPUI requires 42 courses.  Courses are divided into two groups – first/second year (100/200 level) and third/fourth year (300/400) and are often shown in two columns on a plan of study.  There are 21 courses in the first/second year (and they make up the Associate Degree).  These 20 courses total 65 credits.  Of these 21 courses, 14 of them are technical courses (circuits, etc).  These 14 courses total 42 credits.  Applicants who can document CBET certification or Department of Defense BMET training will receive a block of 42 technical credits at the 100/200 course designation level.  These credits will be used to satisfy the first/second year technical credits.  They can only be used toward the Biomedical Engineering Technology Degree at IUPUI.

The 42 credits are awarded even if the applicant has never attended college.

The award does NOT eliminate other first/second year course general requirements, which include mathematics, English, physics, speech and psychology (a total of 7 courses, 22 credits).

The block credits will not allow an applicant to receive an associate degree from IUPUI.  The credits are applied to the bachelor’s degree only.
