Did Black America Let Down Obama? Or just ourselves?
Yesterday, November 2nd marked our first midterm election since inducting our 44th president of the United States. A president, while for all intents and purposes successful in making changes, simply not moving fast enough for the American people. At least that’s what yesterday’s drastic regime change indicated when the Republican GOP base took over the House of Representatives. Let’s look at some numbers according to CNN that will perhaps enlighten everyone to how much of an epic fail yesterday was for those of us who voted for and supported Obama and his call for change was:
The last time so many seats changed was 1948
10 the number of governor seats switched from Democrat to Republican
3 the number of Iowa judges booted over Gay Marriages
47% the percentage of Seniors backing the Tea Party movement
62% the percentage of electorate who said economy was #1 priority
0 the number of African Americans in the senate…
I voted yesterday. Would’ve voted twice if I could. Even if I didn’t think for a second my vote made a difference, I was hoping that someone who saw that the Republican party, conservatives, tea-partiers or whatever they go by this week; who support ignorant individuals like Kentucky incumbent, chauvinist and racist Rand Paul, would vote to support the man we put in office.
Considering the republican party gained 60 seats in theĀ house of representatives, I’m starting to think I was wrong. I know it’s a Tuesday, people have to work or go to school…but if no one votes in the Midterm elections, the rally for change and the victory we claim to have won was for nothing. If you thought Obama had it hard before trying to work with republicans? It’s going to be even more impossible now. How are you going to reach across the isle to make middle ground policy if the new regime is interested in repeals and extensions of Bush politics? Tax cuts for the rich? Decreased spending in areas of Education and Health Care disguised as fiscal responsibility?
Wow…It makes me wonder. Who did we really let down yesterday…and does anyone even care?
Oh, and if you’re not an Obama fan and you think yesterday’s election is a shining beacon of hope to correct what’s been attrociously done to our country over the past two years? You’ll really like this site: http://whatthefuckhasobamadonesofar.com/ …enjoy.
