Babytalk Research is a research project at Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis and Riley Hospital for Children. Babytalk Research is conducting research on hearing impairment and language development in infants and children. When an infant is diagnosed with a hearing impairment, parents must make a choice between no treatment, hearing aids, or cochlear implants. It is critical to evaluate how well these treatments benefit hearing-impaired infants. Of particular interest is how these interventions benefit infants' comprehension of speech. We are currently developing new procedures to assess speech perception abilities of both hearing impaired and normal-hearing infants.
