CPT MARIA D. TURPIN
Captain Maria D. Turpin entered the United States Army in January of 1996. She attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual Training as a Medical Specialist at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. She earned her commission through Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA in May, 2007. Her duty assignments include: JNN Platoon Leader, C Co. 2nd BSTB, 2nd BCT, Fort Drum, NY; Company XO, C Co. 2nd BSTB, 2nd BCT, Fort Drum, NY; Battalion Contracting Officer Representative and Transition Officer, 2BSTB, 2nd BCT, Fort Drum, NY; Battalion S-6, HHD, 1-62nd ADA BN, Fort Hood, Texas. She is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Military Science (APMS) with the IUPUI Army ROTC Program, in Indianapolis, IN. She has deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom 10-11 and New Dawn.
Captain Turpin’s military education includes: Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Basic Officer Leadership Course I (Officer Candidate School), Basic Officer Leadership Course II, Signal Basic Officer Leadership Course (SBOLC), and Signal Captain Career Course (SCCC). CPT Turpin has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities from Thomas Edison State College and is currently pursuing on a Master’s Degree in Administrative Leadership through Oklahoma University.
Her Awards and Decorations include: Army Commendation Medal (6 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (7 OLC), Good Conduct Award (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal (BS), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (1 BS), Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 BS), Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 2), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 2), Army Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, and Combat Action Badge.
She is married to Shawn Turpin, of Bedford, IN. They have three children Michael-12, Elizabeth-2, and Isabel- 7 months old.
