Portfolio Project
You are required to complete a portfolio project that will consist of
various essays that you construct over the course of the semester. The
following essays are required as part of the portfolio:
· Cover Letter: This assignment is, in essence, an introduction
to your portfolio. It requires you to detail the process involved in
preparing the portfolio. It is also the space where you are asked to
reflect upon all that you have learned through this course, as evidenced
in your portfolio.
· Summary/Strong Response Essay (2): This assignment requires
you to provide an overview of an Article Issue covered in the textbook,
followed by a strong response that documents your position on either
side of the controversy. Although you are required to write TWO of these
essays, you will be selecting only ONE to be included in your final
portfolio.
· "Anthropology in Action" Essay: This assignment
gives you some degree of choice in constructing an essay. The possible
options for this essay are listed at the end of the syllabus. The choice
will be made early in the semester, in consultation with the instructor.
The essays should be 2-3 pages, typed and double-spaced,
and will be collected at the beginning of class on the listed collection
dates. The essays will be submitted first as rough drafts, which WILL
NOT BE GRADED. However, final portfolios will not be accepted WITHOUT
the inclusion of those rough drafts, which will be scored
and will receive comments. Guidelines for completing the specific essays
and the portfolio in general will be distributed in advance of the stated
deadlines. You are strongly encouraged to make an appointment
with the Writing Center prior to passing in the draft essays and the final
portfolio. Late assignments, without proper documentation indicating
an emergency, will be penalized one-half letter grade for each weekday
late.
**HANDOUTS FOR EACH COMPONENT OF THE PORTFOLIO
PROJECT WILL BE PROVIDED IN ADVANCE OF DEADLINES.**
