Course Objectives

The following course objectives subscribe to IUPUI’s Principles of Undergraduate Learning (PUL). In this course, we will be focusing on the following four principles:

  • PUL #1: Core Communication and Quantitative Skills
  • PUL #2: Critical Thinking
  • PUL #5: Understanding Society and Culture
  • PUL #6: Values and Ethics

In light of these PULs, you will be evaluated through your course requirements, which consist of exams, cultural activities, and a portfolio project. At the end of the semester, you should be able to:

    1. critically analyze two sides of an anthropological debate in small group discussions
    2. express your ideas and arguments effectively in a variety of written formats
    3. synthesize new ideas from the texts and your peers
    4. communicate effectively one-on-one and in small groups
    5. compare and contrast the local and global range of human diversity
    6. produce a final portfolio of various writings which demonstrates the learning process
