ALSA Joint Event with BLSA and HLS

Diversity in the Judiciary

February 11, 2011

We all came to law school to pursue a career in the legal profession for different reasons. In the future, some of us might become a judicial clerk or a judge. However, what is it like to be a judge?  What kind of challenges do judges encounter when serving on the bench? What expectations do judges have for their clerks?  You can find out the answer in our upcoming event: “Diversity in the Judiciary.”

The Asian Law Students Association (ALSA) is pleased to bring you a panel called “Diversity in the Judiciary.”  We are co-hosting this event with the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) and the Hispanic Law Society (HLS) on February 15, 2011.  We will hold the panel in Room 300 from 5 to 6 p.m.  A reception will follow in the Atrium from 6 to 7 p.m.

This event will include Judge Jose D. Salinas, Judge David A. Shaheed and Judge Barbara Cook Crawford as our panelists to talk to all of us.  Judge Salinas, Judge Shaheed and Judge Crawford are alumni of Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis and are serving on the Marion Superior Court.  Judge Salinas has worked in the criminal justice system for many years and has seen every aspect of the judicial system.  Judge Shaheed has had a career on the bench for thirteen years and has spent an equal amount of time in both the Criminal Division and the Civil Division.  Judge Crawford began her service as a judge on the Marion Superior Court last year and previously worked in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

We sincerely invite you to join us for the “Diversity in the Judiciary” event.  The panel provides all attendants a forum to have a direct and intellectual conversation with Judge Salinas, Judge Shaheed and Judge Cook Crawford.  The reception provides everyone a chance to interact face-to-face with our honorable guests, and a great social opportunity to network with other attendants as well.

Are you excited about this upcoming event? We are. And we look forward to seeing you.
