Networking: It’s for Everyone

While perusing the ALA JobList Newsletter, I came across this article on networking from the Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/brian-harke/networking-jobs-search_b_1123793.html.

I like that the author, Brian Harke, mentions that networking happens all of the time. Enjoy the winter break and remember that you can network with friends and family while enjoying seasonal festivities.

Enjoy!

Indy Librarian Tweet-Up!

Mark your calenders! Oct. 15 is the first ever Indy Librarian Tweet-Up!

This is a great opportunity to meet other librarians in the area and network. Students are welcome and you don’t need to be on Twitter to come to this. Come mingle with your fellow students and librarians. Learn about the field, get advice, have a drink and lots of fun!

SLA Networking Dinner and Program

The Indiana Chapter of SLA would like to invite SLIS students to our upcoming program.  Financial literacy is a hot topic right now, and I think this program is a good fit for students interested in a variety of library settings.  Details are below.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Join the Indiana Chapter of SLA in Carmel the evening of Thursday, September 15, for an InSLA networking dinner and program!  The evening will be in two parts, so please come for one or both.

5:30-6:45:  Dinner and chapter networking at Woody’s Library Restaurant (you pay for your own meal)
Woody’s Library Restaurant

7:00-8:00:  Program and dessert in the Carmel Clay Public Library (http://www.carmel.lib.in.us/) program room

Program Description:
The Carmel Clay Public Library and Foundation have received an $84,600 grant from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation and the American Library Association (ALA) as part of the Smart investing@your library initiative.  Karen Glaser, Grants Coordinator at the Carmel Clay Public Library, will speak about the process of applying for the grant and the library’s financial literacy programming plans for all ages.  She will also take questions about the grant-writing process and CCPL’s financial literacy programming.  Come and learn more about financial literacy resources for you and your patrons!

Help us showcase the value of InSLA membership by bringing a colleague to the program!  SLA’s Recruit-A-Member and Win!  campaign features ideas for recruiting new members and membership materials.  Contest (with prizes!) ends October 1. And mark your calendars for an InSLA evening at the Indiana Library Federation annual conference in November!

Please RSVP for dinner, the program, or both by September 9.   Send RSVPs and questions to Jessica Trinoskey at jessicatrinoskey@gmail.com .

Hope to see you on September 15!
