For the first time ever, Grupo Acupe has brought three Capoeira Angola mestres from Salvador de Bahia, Brazil to demonstrate this vibrant performance art with musical accompaniment on the IUPUI campus. The historical origins of Capoeira Angola date back to slavery and Grupo Acupe is one of the main groups responsible for revitalizing this cultural art form in contemporary Brazil. In addition to live demonstrations by 10-15 performers, the mestres from Grupo Acupe will also be answering questions about Capoeira Angola from the audience.
