Welcome to IUPUI Committee
on African and African and African American Studies web pages. Since its
founding in 1999, the Committee has been defined by an outstanding
faculty and
students, and has built strong linkages with the
Program on African Studies at
Indiana University, and developed a wide range of outreach
activities.
The Committee organizes a
film series and a
seminar series
and supports research clusters and working groups that
form around thematic topics or geographical areas. In
the spring of 2006, our film series will be co-sponsored
by the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
Undergraduate and graduate
students at IUPUI can take Africa-related courses in the
School of Liberal Arts curriculum or in the offerings of
specific schools. We have been also been actively
involved with the
Indiana University-Kenya Program, the Indiana University School
of Medicine’s exchange program with
Moi University Faculty of
Health Sciences in Eldoret, Kenya.
Students can
attend the University of Ghana at Legon for a semester
on an Indiana University
Overseas Studies program.
Our faculty is committed to
high-quality instruction and one-on-one advising for our
undergraduate and graduate students. Our faculty is
involved in outreach within the Indianapolis community
and the training of students at special summer
institutes hosted on the Indiana University campus.
We hope you will use these pages
to discover more about the programs and activities
supported by the Committee on African and
African-Diaspora Studies at Indiana University.
