Math and Science Teaching Scholarships

$2,500 per year, renewable up to 4 years

The Math and Science Teaching Scholarship (MSTS) Program offered by the Urban Center for the Advancement of Math/Science Education (UCASE), is designed to encourage and to support outstanding high school graduates who desire to pursue a career in math or science teaching at the middle and/or high school level. These competitive scholarships provide the annual awards of $2,500 each and they may be renewed for up to four years.

Scholarship eligibility:

  • Student must be in the top 25% of their graduating class and have a minimum 1050 SAT (math and critical reasoning sections only) or 21 ACT score
  • Student must have a high school GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Student must provide at least two (2) letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a math or science teacher
  • Student must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.

How to Apply

The IUPUI scholarship application, a high school transcript, two letters of recommendation, and a 500-800 word-essay responding to the question: “What experience(s) has motivated you to pursue a career teaching science or mathematics?” must be received by the Office of Student Scholarships by February 1.

Eligible students from the under-represented minority groups are encouraged to apply. Please note that a MSTS award recipient may not concurrently hold the Dean of Science Scholarship. The MSTS is renewable only if the recipient maintains an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, and continues to pursue an academic plan leading to certification as a teacher of mathematics or science

(for Transfers and IUPUI Continuing Students)

The Math and Science Education Scholarship (MSES) Program offered by the Urban Center for the Advancement of Math/Science Education (UCASE), is designed to encourage and to support outstanding IUPUI current or transfer students who have had a strong math or science based major and who wish to pursue a career in math or science teaching at the middle and/or high school level. These competitive scholarships provide the annual awards of $2,500 each and they may be renewed for up to three years.

Scholarship eligibility:

  • Student must be enrolled in a science or math based program and have completed at least 25 credits towards the degree.
  • Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale)
  • Student must provide at least two (2) letters of recommendation, one of which should be from a faculty member of the student’s major at IUPUI.
  • Student must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.

Complete and submit the IUPUI Continuing Student Scholarship application, two letters of recommendation, a copy of academic transcripts, and a 500-800 word-essay responding to the question: "What experience(s) has motivated you to pursue a career teaching science or mathematics?"


Scholarship application packages must be received by the IUPUI Office of Student Scholarships by March 1. Students from the under-represented minority groups with acceptable GPA for secondary teacher education admission are strongly encouraged to apply.
