IUPUI has played a key role in making Indianapolis the "Amateur Sports Capital of the World" with its world-class athletic facilities, and that has made the campus a point of destination for many of the best athletes in the world.

Thanks to the annual RCA Tennis Championships men's professional tennis tournament and its predecessor, the U.S. Open Clay Courts Championships, the IUPUI campus has hosted a host of tennis Hall of Famers, past, present and future. Among them:
