Aldred S. Warthin (1866 - 1931) was a physician and educator. He received an A.B. from IU in 1888 and an LL.D. in 1928 in recognition of his achievements as teacher, author, editor and physician. He was a medical educator for over 35 years and an international scholar authoring more than one thousand articles in journals and textbooks. He also wrote books which were widely read by laymen.
In 1958, IU named an IUPUI campus building, Warthin Apartments, in his honor. Warthin Apartments was demolished in 2001 to provide space for the Apartments on the River Walk.
